The Election of 2008 was a very crucial election. With the country falling deeper into depression everyday, two contenders stepped in to try and win the role as President of the United States. For the Democrats was Barack Obama, a colored senator from Illinois who is from an interacial family, and had been schooled in Indonesia. He believed in rapidly ending the Iraq War, increasing energy dependence, and providing universal healthcare. He beat out Hilary Clinton to be the democratic nominee. Mr. Obama chose Joe Biden as his Vice Presidential running mate.

On the other side was republican John McCain, a senator from Arizona and a veitnam vet comes from a family of Four Star Admirals in the US Navy. While in Vietnam, Senator McCain almost lost his life in the Fire of the USS Forrestal, and was shot down over vietnam during a bombing mission. He was a Prisoner of War from 1967 through 1973. While there he was tortured limiting his physical mobility. His campain focused on his ability to lead the country out of the depression, and his experience compared to Obama's. After beating out Rudy Guliani for the nominee, Senator McCain chose Sarah Palin from Alaska as his running mate.

In the election, Senator McCain won 22 states, including Alaska, Texas, and Arizona, and 173 Electoral College Votes. Senator Obama on the other hand won 28 states, including Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Flordia, and 365 Electoral College Votes. That means that Senator Obama won the election becoming the 44th President of the United States, and the first on of colored decent.
